Longview Events Calendar - Festivals Through the Year
Longview's event calendar brings together museum exhibitions, outdoor music, balloon racing, theatre, and public celebrations. Some activities follow a published seasonal pattern; others belong to a specific year and weekend. The 2026 dates below provide concrete examples for comparing those parts of the calendar. For a future visit, check the individual event listing before using a past date to plan a journey.
Spring
The city's America 250 event list included an April 11, 2026 kickoff featuring Chautauqua, Dalton Days, Downtown Live, a parade, and a laser light show. Chautauqua took place at Longview Public Library with music, performances, authors, artists, and activities celebrating Longview and East Texas culture. The city listed Chautauqua and Dalton Days as free events.
Dalton Days, presented by Gregg County Historical Museum, included children's games, food vendors, crafts, a petting zoo, Western entertainment, and a reenactment of the 1894 Dalton Gang bank robbery in Longview. That combination made the historical reenactment one part of a broader family event, rather than the whole day's program.
Spring also included the Longview Museum of Fine Arts' 66th Student Invitational, held March 5-May 9, 2026. The museum says its annual invitational began in 1960 and spotlights high school artists from East Texas. An exhibition's date range allows a different kind of planning from a festival scheduled for one day: choose a visit within the run and check the museum's opening hours separately.
For a regional seasonal outing, TPWD identifies Tyler's Azalea Trail with March. That is a month to consider when comparing spring destinations, rather than a complete schedule of the trail's events.
Early Summer: The Balloon Race
The Great Texas Balloon Race's 2026 program ran June 12-14 at the Longview Convention Complex. It included the evening balloon glow and drone shows on Friday and Saturday nights. The race organization records that the Governor of Texas designated Longview the Balloon Capital of Texas in 1985.
The City of Longview's race listing described competitive flights on Friday through Sunday mornings over Longview and parts of Gregg County. Launch and landing sites changed with the wind and weather; flight launch points and targets were determined before each flight. All event times were approximate, and the city emphasized that the events depended on prevailing weather conditions.
The distinction between competition flights and the evening balloon glow matters when deciding what part of the festival interests you. A published event venue does not mean that every flight began there or followed a fixed route. Keep weather-dependent activities flexible and use the listing for the particular year's event instead of assuming a summer date remains the same.
Summer Theatre in Kilgore
The Tyler Morning Telegraph's June 24, 2026 report placed the Texas Shakespeare Festival's 41st season at Kilgore College's Van Cliburn Auditorium. Productions were staged June 25-July 26, 2026.
The reported lineup included A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet, 1776, Emma, Dear Jack, Dear Louise, and the children's play The Reluctant Dragon. A season containing several productions calls for choosing a title and performance date together. The overall season dates do not indicate that every production appeared on every day.
Theatre Longview also appeared in the city's America 250 program. Its production of Oklahoma! was performed at Longview Community Center July 31-August 2 and August 7-9, 2026. Those dates belonged to a separate local production, so keep the Longview and Kilgore theatre destinations distinct when comparing the summer calendar.
Independence Day
The city listed the July 4, 2026 Fireworks and Freedom Celebration at the Longview Convention Complex as a free event. The program featured the Longview Symphony Orchestra in concert, a headliner band, vendors, activities, and fireworks.
That celebration combined music, vendors, and activities with a fireworks program. When comparing it with a concert series or theatre performance, consider which part of the event is the main reason for attending and allow room for the rest of the program. The 2026 venue and features describe that year's celebration; they do not set a future Independence Day schedule.
Fall
Visit Longview's Downtown Live description gives a recurring pattern of Friday evenings from 5-8 p.m. in April, May, September, and October at Heritage Plaza. The outdoor music series is free and includes drinks and food trucks. Use those months as a seasonal guide, then confirm an individual concert date and its program.
The Longview Museum of Fine Arts exhibition list names Waltz Across Texas for October 10, 2026. It also lists America the Beautiful Invitational as an off-site exhibition running January 27-December 30, 2026. An off-site listing calls for checking the exhibition location as well as its dates, rather than assuming every museum program shares one venue.
In Tyler, TPWD places the Rose Festival in October, while Visit Tyler identifies October and mid-late May as the Rose Garden's peak bloom periods. The garden covers 14 acres, with more than 300 rose varieties in 600 beds, according to Visit Tyler's Rose Garden guide. Festival dates and a garden's bloom season answer different planning questions; compare both when choosing a fall outing.
For attractions to pair with an event, see the Longview attractions guide. Choose one main event first, then fit a museum or garden visit around it with time for travel and breaks.
